We offer a range of therapy services tailored to your needs, with flexible scheduling and transparent pricing. Learn more about what we offer and how we can support you.
Individual therapy is designed for adults (ages 18+) who are navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief, self-esteem issues, or general stress. It's also a space for personal growth, self-exploration, and building resilience, even if you don't have a specific diagnosis or "problem."
Session Length: Standard sessions are 50 minutes, though extended 80-minute sessions are available upon request for deeper work.
Frequency: Most clients attend weekly sessions, especially during the initial phase of therapy. As progress is made, some clients transition to bi-weekly sessions. The frequency is flexible and determined collaboratively based on your needs and goals.
Delivery: Available both online (via secure, HIPAA-compliant video) and in-person at our office in Serene City. Online sessions offer the same quality of care with the convenience of attending from anywhere.
Couples counseling is for partners of all types, married, engaged, dating, or in committed relationships, who want to strengthen their connection, resolve conflicts, or navigate challenges together. We welcome couples of all gender identities and relationship structures.
Session Length: Couples sessions are typically 80 minutes to allow adequate time for both partners to be heard and for productive work to unfold.
Frequency: Weekly or bi-weekly, depending on the intensity of the issues and your schedules.
Delivery: Available both online and in-person. Many couples find that in-person sessions facilitate deeper connection, but online sessions can be equally effective and more convenient.
Note: Emily draws on research-informed approaches including elements of the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to guide couples work.
This service is tailored for young adults (ages 18-29) and college or graduate students who are navigating the unique challenges of this life stage. Whether you're dealing with academic stress, identity questions, relationship struggles, anxiety, depression, or the pressure of "figuring it all out," this is a space to explore and grow.
Session Length: 50 minutes
Frequency: Weekly is recommended, though we can adjust based on your schedule and needs.
Delivery: Online sessions are particularly popular with this age group, offering flexibility to fit around classes, work, and other commitments. In-person sessions are also available.
Online therapy is for anyone who prefers or requires the convenience, accessibility, and privacy of attending sessions from home. It's ideal for busy professionals, parents, individuals with mobility issues, or those who simply feel more comfortable in their own space.
Research shows that online therapy (also called telehealth or teletherapy) is just as effective as in-person therapy for most mental health concerns. At SafeTherapy, we use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform that protects your privacy. All you need is a reliable internet connection, a private space, and a device with a camera and microphone.
Many clients appreciate that online therapy eliminates commute time, allows for more flexible scheduling, and can feel less intimidating than walking into an office. It also makes therapy accessible for those who live outside the immediate area or have schedules that make in-person appointments challenging.
Session Length: 50 minutes for individuals, 80 minutes for couples
Frequency: Determined collaboratively based on your needs
Technical Requirements: A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. We'll provide a link to join sessions, no special software required beyond a web browser.
SafeTherapy is committed to making therapy accessible. We reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients experiencing financial hardship. Sliding scale fees range from $90 to $130 per session, based on income and financial circumstances. If cost is a barrier for you, please reach out, we'll work together to find an arrangement that makes therapy feasible.
In-Network: SafeTherapy is currently in-network with select insurance plans. Please contact us to verify whether your specific plan is accepted.
Out-of-Network: If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, we can provide you with a detailed receipt (often called a "superbill") that you can submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement. Reimbursement rates vary widely by plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your out-of-network benefits.
Self-Pay: Many clients choose to pay out-of-pocket to avoid the limitations that insurance can impose (such as required diagnoses, treatment plan approvals, and session caps). Self-pay also offers greater privacy, as insurance companies do not receive information about your treatment.
Payment is due at the time of each session. We accept credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Invoices can be provided upon request.
Cancellations: Please provide at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or no-shows (without extenuating circumstances) will be charged the full session fee. We understand that life happens, if you're facing an emergency or unexpected situation, please reach out and we'll work with you.
Therapy can feel mysterious if you've never done it before. Here's a general overview of what the process looks like at SafeTherapy.
Your first point of contact is a brief 15-minute consultation by phone or video. This is an opportunity to share a bit about what brought you to therapy, ask any questions you have, and get a sense of whether Emily and SafeTherapy feel like a good fit. There's no obligation to continue after this call, it's simply a chance to connect and explore.
If you decide to move forward, your first full session (often called an "intake") is a time for Emily to learn about you. She'll ask about your current challenges, what you hope to get out of therapy, your history (including family background, significant life events, and any previous therapy or mental health treatment), and your strengths and resources. This session is collaborative and conversational, you're encouraged to ask questions and share what feels important.
By the end of the intake, Emily will offer some initial impressions and, if appropriate, suggest a general direction for your work together. You'll also discuss logistics like session frequency and what to expect going forward.
In the next few sessions, you and Emily will collaboratively set specific, meaningful goals. These might include reducing anxiety symptoms, improving relationship communication, building self-compassion, or making a significant life decision. Goals are revisited and adjusted as therapy progresses, they're meant to guide the work, not lock you into a rigid plan.
Emily will also begin introducing tools and strategies tailored to your goals. For example, if you're working on anxiety, you might learn breathing techniques, thought restructuring exercises, or grounding practices. You'll also start to identify patterns, ways of thinking, feeling, or behaving that contribute to your struggles, and explore where they come from.
Most of therapy happens in these middle sessions. Each session typically begins with a check-in: How has your week been? What's on your mind? What do you want to focus on today? From there, the session unfolds based on your needs. Sometimes you'll work on specific skills or strategies. Other times you'll explore deeper emotional material, process recent events, or examine long-standing patterns and beliefs.
Emily often assigns "homework" between sessions, not in a burdensome way, but as a means of practicing new skills and reflecting on insights. This might include journaling, trying a new coping strategy, or noticing a particular pattern in your daily life. These between-session practices are key to making progress.
Therapy doesn't last forever, and that's by design. The goal is to equip you with tools, insights, and resilience so that you can navigate life independently. When you and Emily agree that you've made sufficient progress and feel confident moving forward, you'll plan for an ending. This might involve spacing sessions out (e.g., moving from weekly to monthly check-ins) before stopping altogether, or it might be a more definitive conclusion.
It's also completely normal to return to therapy later if new challenges arise or you want a "tune-up." Many clients come back periodically over the course of their lives, and that's welcomed and encouraged.
